Troubleshooting

This page listed the problems readers met most often on the discussion board, and what to do about them.

My post does not show up

If you used the browser's back button several times after posting, you may be looking at an old copy of the page. Reload it from the server to see your message. Some conversations were also moderated, so a post could take a little time to appear.

Reloading sends me to the top page

This happened when the page address included a temporary marker. Return to the conversation from the topic list, or use the search to find the thread again.

My formatting tags do not work

Check that the keyword is in the right case, that every opening tag is closed, and that the tags are not crossed over one another. Preview the post before publishing to see how it will look.

Text boxes reset when I resize a window or use the back button

This is a known behaviour of some browsers. Write long messages in a separate document first, then paste them into the message box when you are ready to post.

Text boxes do not fit on the screen

Older browsers, and very small windows, sometimes cut off the message box. Increasing the window size, or reducing the browser's text size, usually brings the whole box into view.

Some links report that a page is not found

A few older links pointed to pages that had since moved. Use the navigation at the top of the board, or the search, to reach the discussion you want.

Images, colours and characters look wrong

Images could be blocked by browser settings, and colours could be altered by accessibility options. Unusual characters sometimes appeared when a post had been written in a different character set. In each case the message itself was unaffected.
